BUTTERFLY GUY HONORED

An Altoona Middle School student, Derek Scheider, has recieved the EarthGreen Award from the Chippewa Valley Group of the Sierra Club for his study of endangered karner Blue butterflies.

Scheider has surveyed 20 potential Karner habitat sites in the Eau Claire area. He also has
drafted an informational brochure on the butterflies, which has been printed and distributed by Northern States Power Co.

This is the first time a student has received the award.
